Thursday 12 February
Ed Miliband’s visited Brighton and spoke to residents. The Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change spoke to a full house at the Brighthelm Centre at a meeting I chaired. Despite a brief interruption from protesters, Ed answered a large number of questions on topics including wind farms, light bulbs, road policy, public transport integration, emissions, and of course aviation. He was particularly interested in what people had to say about the importance of integrated and affordable rail travel as a tool to combat climate change. Thanks are due to Brighton and Hove Fabian Society for sponsoring this event.
Saturday 14 February
Out and about finding out the concerns of Patcham residents today with Peter Skinner MEP. Several people had heard about the possibility of free swimming for the over 60’s and wanted to know if it would be available for them in Brighton. I was very pleased to be able to tell them that the Labour Government had invested in free swimming and the over 60’s will be able to take advantage of this in Brighton from April 2009.
Sunday 15 February
Off to Lewes to speak with Labour Party members at their AGM, followed by tea and some wonderful home-made cakes.
Wednesday 18 February
Met with residents in Carlyle Street who are fed up with the high volume of traffic using the street as a short cut to avoid the junction and traffic lights at the corner of Elm Grove and Queens Park Road. We are planning to take some action to tackle this problem!
Friday 27 February
