Low Pay and Poverty in the UK

I went out meeting local residents in Hanover straight after work today. Someone raised a concern about low pay and poverty in the UK. For the last ten years I have worked in the trade union movement and the voluntary sector campaigning on these issues.

I have campaigned for a ‘Living Wage’, better employment rights and an end to child poverty. I was on the board of the End Child Poverty campaign and worked for Child Poverty Action Group last year. I’ll also be joining the Unite the Union demonstration with healthcare workers outside the Royal Sussex Hospital on 18th July opposing the pay cut that would result from a below-inflation pay rise.

Low pay, especially for healthcare workers and domestic poverty are issues in which I take a keen interest and on which I will continue to campaign, if elected to Parliament.
