After work, I went out meeting residents in Hanover before going to a meeting at the Hanover Community Association about Hanover Day. I was really sad to hear that it won’t run this year due to lack of funds. It’s a wonderful community event attracting thousands of people and last year on our Labour Party stall, we (successfully!) campaigned for the new Tory-led Council to commit to up to 40% affordable housing in every new development. It was a lot of fun as we got people to build their ideal affordable home from Lego. Some photos of the inspired architecture are here!

Anyway, Hugh Jones, Chair of the Hanover Day Association made an inspiring speech and explained how the costs mounted up. We all put forward suggestion and I offered to help by contacting local businesses and asking them to put up posters calling for people to help save Hanover Day 2009. It looked like there were going to be lots of volunteers and all skills are welcome. We need people to help plan, organise and fund the event as well as people on the day, if you have a skill, we can use it! If you want to get involved, you just need to email Hanoverday2008@googlemail.com – everyone is very friendly and welcoming.
